Cookie policy
A short cookie policy, written in plain English.
Last updated: May 2026. We use as few cookies as we can. Where we use optional ones, we ask first.
In short
We use a small set of essential cookies that keep this site working. We do not run any advertising trackers. If you accept analytics cookies in the banner, we use a privacy-friendly tool to count how many people read each page; nothing is shared with third parties and no personal data is collected.
1. What a cookie is.
A cookie is a small text file stored by your web browser on your computer or phone. Cookies allow a website to remember things between page loads — for example, that you have dismissed a banner, or that you prefer dark mode. Some are essential to a site working at all. Others are optional.
2. The cookies we use.
The table below lists every cookie used on bashtrust.org, with its purpose and retention.
Essential cookies (no consent required)
- bashtrust.cookie.v1 · stored in localStorage · records your response to the cookie banner so we do not show it again · retained until you clear your browser storage.
- session · technical session cookie used by the static host (Cloudflare/Netlify/GitHub Pages, depending on deployment) to deliver this site safely · retained for the duration of your visit.
Optional cookies (set only with your consent)
- _pa_id · a single anonymous identifier used by our privacy-friendly analytics tool to count distinct visitors and which pages they read. No personal data is collected. Retained 14 months. You can opt out at any time by clearing your browser storage and choosing "Essential only" the next time you visit.
3. What we do NOT do.
- We do not run advertising trackers.
- We do not embed third-party social-media tags that profile you.
- We do not pass any cookie data to other organisations.
- We do not use cookies to identify individual donors or subscribers.
4. How to change your mind.
You can withdraw consent for the optional analytics cookie at any time:
- Clear your browser's storage for bashtrust.org (the cookie banner will reappear on your next visit).
- Choose "Essential only" when the banner shows again.
- Or write to [email protected] and we will note your preference at our end.
5. The rest of your data.
For the personal data that you choose to share with us (for example, when making a donation), please see our privacy notice. The two policies should be read together.
6. Changes to this policy.
We will update this policy when our practice changes. The "Last updated" date above will show when it was last revised.
7. How to complain.
Please write to us first at [email protected]. If you remain unhappy, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
